Our History
Florida
Women of Hope, Inc. began in Florida in 2016. At that time, a group of women came together to support another who was experiencing a life crisis. The women offered her support, resources, advice and listening ears. As a result, the "Walk N Talk" was formed, held frequently, and available to any woman. In 2017, given the success of the "Walk N Talk", a passion to empower women and the vision of Wanda McMurtry, the group formed the name Women of Hope and held their first Mother's Day Brunch, their signature event held annually in May. In addition to their women empowerment activities, the women also give away backpacks filled with essential school supplies prior to the start of the school year.
Our Mission
Moving Forward
The mission of Women of Hope, Inc. is to provide information, access to resources or carry out an array of activities and services to empower, strengthen, or enrichen the lives of women, their families, or communities. We particularly cater to the marginalized Black, indigenous or other women of color, in areas where disparities or inequalities may exist that include, but not limited to, healthcare, housing, jobs, entrepreneurship, or other areas conducive to having a good quality of life. We research, identify and remain abreast of the diverse needs of women and, address gaps in existing services to help women of all ages to sustain good mental, physical, spiritual, or financial well-being.
Boston
In 2019 two Bostonians, Thelma Hyatt and her daughter, Jennetta attended the Mother's Day Brunch in Florida. Both were so impressed with the event and were inspired to form Women of Hope Boston in 2020 and holding its first signature event themed, "Aloha". In 2021 Women of Hope, Inc. formed as a nonprofit organization. Sadly, Thelma passed away before its fruition.
